I wrote an 8-bar boom-bap beat at 88 BPM in D minor. The final render has a true peak of -0.7 dBFS and loudness of about -13.6 LUFS, so it doesn't clip.
- Drums: kick, snare and hat samples, all labelled. The snare is on beats 2 and 4, with quiet ghost notes and a short fill in bar 8. The kick pattern changes every other bar.
- Hats: 8th notes with accents, plus quiet ghost hats on the off-16ths. Every off-16th is pushed late for the swing, and there is an open hat on the last 8th of each even bar.
- Keys: a piano Sampler with a lowpass filter, light distortion and reverb, to sound dusty. The progression is Dm7, Dm7, Bbmaj7, A7, Dm7, Gm7, Bbmaj7, A7. The chords are played in syncopated hits.
- Horn stab: the
stab_minor_C3sample pitched up two semitones to D minor, played on the last 8th of bars 2 and 6 (both Dm7). - Bass: a triangle MonoSynth with a sine sub layered under it. It plays the chord roots and fifths in a syncopated pattern and is labelled
bass. - Texture: a very quiet pink-noise bed stands in for vinyl crackle.
- Mix: everything goes through a compressor and limiter.
The listen tool reports a tempo of 105.5 BPM instead of 88. I think the swung hats confuse its beat detection, and I didn't investigate further. The scheduling is locked to 88 BPM (transport.bpm.value = 88).
